Poll: Al Franken surges into lead! (if you ignore the margin of error)

Al Franken for Senate Campaign Manager Stephanie Schriock has breathlessly composed and sent us an email with this startling news:

This just came over the wire: A new poll has Al Franken surging to a one-point lead over Republican Senator Norm Coleman!

Joking about margins of error and how a one point lead is not something one "surges" into is left as an exercise.

Rachel Maddow gets own MSNBC TV show

Comrade "Keith Olbermann" reports (dailykos.com/story/2008/8/19/161133/955/1005/570567) that starting September 8, Air America Radio host Rachel Maddow will also be hosting her very own television show on MSNBC at 9pm Eastern. Will MSNBC and their tens of thousands of viewers be able to succeed where Air America has failed? How many weeks will her show last before they start programming Bonanza re-runs? Stay tuned...

Air America covering DNC, RNC conventions

Various comrades from Air America Radio will be covering both the Democratic and Republican conventions (link).

For a foretaste, "the irreverent Lionel" will be reporting from Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Chairman Mark (Green) has thoughts:

"In this historic political year, Air America will be bringing our unique brand of opinion radio to both conventions, keeping the Democrats on their toes and keeping the Conservative Far (F)right honest, or at least less dishonest... Our goal is to be politically direct and incorrect and to cut through all the standard talking points and the on-the-one-hand and on-the-other hand coverage by the Mainstream Media. We'll be reaching out to all Air Americans and Progressive Patriots on our 60 affiliates and XM and to all those who want to stream us live."

"Liberal" radio hosts: Bush will answer... at The Hague!

Nearly the entire "liberal" radio braintrust was in Seattle over the weekend (link), but thankfully The Man didn't storm in and ship them off to Gitmo. So, Rachel Maddow, Sam Seder, Stephanie Miller, and Thom Hartmann were free to speak their mind at the "We the People" panel sponsored by AM 1090.

The Four Comrades threw down the gauntlet:

the hosts agree that George W. Bush will answer at some point for his crimes at The Hague - maybe even within fifteen years, as Thom Hartmann predicted.

As for the gift to see themselves as others see them:

So what does the Democratic Party stand for? Suggestions from hosts on the panel included good government, peace, broad prosperity, and populism.

Al Franken draws crowd... of one person

Al Franken's dazzling popularity with Minnesotans was on display yesterday as he gave a speech to one person at Brigitte's Cafe in St. Cloud. In fact, Josh John of that city was the only person (aside from the media) who showed up at Franken's roundtable on veteran issues. They proceeded to discuss those issues for the next hour.

After breaking away from the crowd (of one), Franken went to the Benton County Fair in Sauk Rapids. There were more people there, but whether any were there to see Stuart is probably unlikely.

CACI loses appeal over Randi Rhodes/AAR defamation lawsuit

All ten Randi Rhodes fans - especially the one who's familiar with the lawsuit CACI filed against her and Air America Radio - should let out a loud whoop, because the appeal of the suit's earlier dismissal has been upheld (link).

Priscilla Lord Faris: the "Minnesota Solution" to a "New York City Problem"

DFL comrades: an interview and biographical sketch of Priscilla Lord Faris is here, and I urge you to read it. She's challenging Al Franken to be the DFL (Democrats/Farmer/Labor/Socialist) Party candidate against Norm Coleman. And - as they say in Minnesota - she's sharper than cheddar!

[She says:] "Al Franken cannot win against Norm Coleman and every poll supports that conclusion... I am running because I believe that the Wellstone seat should be occupied by someone who believes that we can do better — end the war, restore our standing in the world, be a more humane country, get our economy going again, provide health care for everyone, and stop corporate greed and partisanship from running the government... I believe that I am the 'Minnesota Solution' to a 'New York City Problem'... Why do we have to have a comedian who lived in New York for 36 years representing us when he’s never been here in the trenches with us working with the DFL? ...He's got millions of dollars, only 17 percent of which is from Minnesota... Is he reflecting what we want our kids to adopt as their values? That's my question..."

She invited the "Problem" to debate her but, of course, he declined.

Air America part of online radio network

From this:
Clear Channel Radio and Katz Media Group formed a new online radio network that will feature content from leading AM, FM and Internet stations in the country.

Katz Online Network will carry audio streams from radio stations owned by some of the largest broadcasters, including Clear Channel Radio, Cumulus, Cox Radio and Salem Broadcasting.

It also will carry popular syndicated content from Air America.
All together now: ...and that would be?

Does globalist Al Franken really support a United Nations "army"?

In a questionnaire given by the far-left globalist group Global Solutions (peekURL.com/zw8dzql), Al Franken has revealed himself to be a scary internationalist who'd yield U.S. sovereignty to the United Nations. Not just that, but he's either ignorant or he's come out in support of giving the U.N. a standing army.

Franken was asked:

Will you cosponsor a resolution in Congress supporting the establishment of a U.N. Emergency Peace Service if one is introduced?

He replied:

I would support anything that helps shorten the time it takes for peacekeepers to be deployed.

Now, read this for the background on the UNEPS.

The UNEPS would be a standing force of basically mercenaries 15,000 strong that could be deployed anywhere within 48 hours under the direction of the U.N. Security Council. While that might make some sense in certain cases in certain lawless regions, it could be completely abused and might even result in U.N. troops - yes, U.N. troops - being deployed inside the U.S.

The United Nations is already trying to establish a global tax via proposals such as the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST). Giving them a standing army would hasten the process towards world government.

I'll be contacting the Al Franken campaign to see whether he was ignorant of the UNEPS or whether he truly supports that plan.

24 HOURS LATER UPDATE: I asked the Franken campaign about this via their online form, someone from their campaign visited this page, and all I got out of it so far is being added to their mailing list. If they don't respond with a statement within another day I'll assume that Franken supports giving the UN a standing army.

36 HOURS LATER UPDATE: Another email later, I'm still waiting to hear back.

6 DAYS LATER UPDATE: Still no answer. After the last update I left a voice mail for Jess McIntosh, Franken's spokeswoman. When she didn't reply I sent an email to media *at* alfranken.com. It's safe to assume that Franken supports the UNEPS, or he would have opposed it by now.

Norm Coleman campaign calls Al Franken sleazy, bad bowler

If there's one thing Minnesotans love more than cheese, it's bowling. So, Norm Coleman has hit their sweet spot with this following ad featuring three bowlers. Per this, the ad has them discussing:

"Foul-mouthed attacks ... tasteless, sexist jokes" and "writing all that juicy [you know what]." ..."And we've decided we're running for U.S. Senate," one guy says. "Why not? We're just as qualified as Al Franken, and we're better bowlers."

Al Franken accepts ACORN endorsement

The far-left group ACORN has endorsed Al Franken, and moreover he's accepted their endorsement. Obtaining a full list of indictments and scandals relating to ACORN is left as an exercise, but this might be a good starting point:

Implicated in numerous reports of fraudulent voter registration, vote-rigging, voter intimidation, and vote-for-pay scams during the 2004 election

The brother of their founder embezzled $1 million from the group, and their board decided to hush it up.

So, I guess Al Franken is just coming full circle.

Jesse Ventura out; Dean Barkley, Priscilla Lord Faris, Jack Uldrich in

Jesse Ventura won't be entering the race for Senator from Minnesota, but Al Franken has some new challengers: Dean Barkley and Jack Uldrich have filed to run from the Independence Party (formerly the Reform Party in that state), and Priscilla Lord Faris is challenging Franken in his own Democratic-Farmer-Labor-Socialist Party (the DFL). Barkley (link) is an affiliate of Ventura.
